At the Fraunhofer IPA's »Health Technologies and Processes« research unit, located in the heart of the Mannheim University Hospital campus, an experimental hybrid operating room serves as a central component of the infrastructure and provides a technology development platform. This enables the development and testing of medical technology innovations and processes in a clinical environment. This early work in a realistic scenario facilitates the transfer of developments into actual clinical application.
The hybrid operating room is also made available to companies as part of projects with the »Health Technologies and Processes« research unit.
The hybrid operating room is equipped with, among other things, a latest-generation X-ray-compatible operating table, surgical lighting, and a Siemens Artis Zeego. This enables not only experiments on phantoms, but also technical trials. It is thus possible to create scenarios for testing a system or reviewing an idea. Depending on availability, specialists with experimental experience can be consulted.
